AYNSLEY BONE CHINA 6-PIECE TEA SERVICE FOR TWO INCLUDES HALLMARKED STERLING SILVER SPOONS, THE ORIGINAL LEATHER PRESENTATION BOX WITH SILK & VELVET PLUSH LINING - WILSON & GILL JEWELERS, LONDON. This very fine quality bone china cased set of two vintage tea cups, saucers, & sterling silver enameled spoons was gifted to us through the estate of my husband, John's, Aunt Gloria.

She & her British-born husband loved to travel the world, & she bequeathed us with a diversity of items that they collected during their travels. The fine bone china in this tea set is burgundy & cream with a rich gilt leafy pattern, which is Aynsley pattern #163. The spoons echo the color & design of the china. The set is encased in the original silk & velvet leather presentation case which is in excellent VINTAGE condition. Aynsley China's story is one built on dreams.

John Aynsley was the chairman of a local coal mine in Stoke-on-Trent, England. He had a passion for collecting tableware & ornamental pieces, specifically pottery & lusterware. On a whim, he decided to turn his obsession with collecting into a pottery business.

In 1775, John Aynsley opened the doors to his dream in Longton (formally known as Lane End) & soon developed a reputation as a master potter. Aynsley used local Staffordshire clay and elaborate designs from his own engravings to win a local audience in Stoke-on-Trent. Aynsley poured his heart & soul into his new business, & due to his efforts the Company prospered. When John Aynsley was older, he turned the business over to his son, James. However, it was James' son, John Aynsley, II, who carried the Company to heights that his grandfather had never dreamed of. John II changed the Company's focus from pottery to fine bone china & altered the manufacturing process by using 50% "calcined bone ash" in his porcelain compound.

Use of this additional component led to Aynsley's bone china being very strong, translucent, & very white. Using this process called for a new factory. "Portland Works" opened a short time later in Stoke-on-Trent. Samuel Wilson & Robert Valentine Gill opened their jewelry shop in April 1892, at 134 Regent Street, London.

Most of their work at this time was in manufacturing & retailing as goldsmiths/silversmiths of fine gemstone jewelry, as well as silver tableware, ceramics, & glass, much of which was supplied by other manufacturers. They produced many of the elegant & beautiful centerpieces & trinkets that were classic of the late Victorian period. Retailed by Wilson & Gill Jewelers, well known as retailers of fine wares & makers to the Queen, this is a complete tea serving set for two people & would look impressive accompanied by a silver tea service, ideally one made by Wilson &Gill. As a wedding or anniversary gift, it is a family heirloom contender. Cup shape: Scalloped, waisted, & footed. MEASUREMENTS & WEIGHT OF COMPLETE BOXED SET.
